Mr Ioannis Goutos is a highly skilled Plastic Surgeon with over twenty years of experience within his specialist interest areas of burn care, scar management and body contouring. He believes that everyone should be able to access a first class and personalised healthcare experience that gives them both a safe assurance and full confidence to meet their desired health goals.
Training qualifications & awards
Mr Goutos trained in London and Oxford regions, which incorporated national centres of excellence in surgical reconstruction. He started his career as an Honorary Consultant at the Royal London Hospital, Barts NHS Trust, where he was leading the development of an exciting and newly established burn facility service. With his lifelong commitment to research, education and evidence-based practice, he extends his surgical role through the position of the Director of the Academic Plastic Surgery programmes at Queen Mary University of London.
Awards & accomplishments
Mr Goutos has achieved many awards and accolades and is cited in over sixty publications in peer reviewed journals. Following his award of a Fellowship in Plastic Surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons, his passion for burns, scar management and aesthetics took him further afield for advanced training in the Indian subcontinent, South America, and the Orient. As a result of his training and experience, he is now considered a leading thought expert in the management of burns and scars.

His specialist interests include the application of surgical and non-surgical treatments to ensure scars not only appear better but that they feel better for his clients, and he works hard to offer a range of appropriate treatment options to them as part of shared decision making. Mr Goutos’ is renowned for his unique consultation philosophy, which places strong emphasis on psychodynamic principles to allow him to explore the impact of burn injuries and scars on an individual’s life and functionality so that he can best work with them to meet their surgical goals.

Mr Goutos has also hosted and delivered several national and international educational workshops on scar management and continues to express his academic interests within his role as a peer reviewer for key medical, burn and scar related journals.
He has, more recently, been recognised as a spokesperson for the British skin foundation and has featured in television broadcasts to share his expertise with the wider public. He continues to support charities such as Changing Faces and Interburns, which share both his vision and passion for supporting people with visible differences.
