What are muscle relaxing injections?

The botulinum toxin used in muscle relaxing injections is a special protein that helps to reduce the activity in target muscles. Repeated movement of the facial muscles causes lines and wrinkles to appear, so reducing this muscle activity can help to reduce their appearance and provide a rejuvenating effect. Futhermore, in certain cases this treatment can improve scar outcomes by immobilising muscles responsible for stretching the overlying skin.

Muscle relaxing injections are a non-surgical procedure that can be performed within an outpatient appointment. Following assessment of your target areas and treatment goals, a qualified clinician will prepare the skin by cleaning it using a sterile solution. The toxin is then injected using sterile equipment. The treated skin may be slightly red, swollen or bruised immediately following injections. Your clinician will then give you a list of things to look out for over the next few days, including any signs of infection or adverse reaction.

When undergoing any cosmetic procedure, it is recommended to ensure good general skin care. This includes regular moisturisation with a non-perfumed cream or ointment and regular sun protection, either with appropriate clothing or application of sunscreen. Following any injections or treatment, the skin should be kept clean and dry until it is healed, and it is generally recommended to avoid using any products that contain harsh chemicals or perfumes.

In addition to treating lines and wrinkles, muscle relaxing ‘botox’ injections are also sometimes used to treat and reduce excessive sweating (medically referred to as ‘hyperhidrosis’). The botox is injected into the site of the sweat glands and can have effects lasting 6-12 months. Furthermore, thse injections have also been used in the medical treatment of bruxism (i.e teeth grinding).

What are the risks associated with this treatment?

There are small risks of bleeding, infection and tenderness following the injection, but these are short-lived and any bruising or redness will resolve in a few days. How many rounds of treatment will I need?

  Mr Goutos and his team removed some lipomas from my arms. The initial consultation right through to the aftercare was professional, sensitive and genuine. Mr Goutos put me at ease right from the start, discussing my history and background and then discussing the various options for the incisions and sutures. The incisions were quick, efficient and professional. I felt completely at ease knowing I was in expert hands. The incisions were extremely neat and have closed and scared really well. I had a number of questions after the operation and one of the sutures became infected. Mr Goutos was quick to make an appointment for me, see me and deal with the infection and offered for me to see him again if the infection didn’t calm down. He was genuinely empathetic to my needs and took time to check each scare, explain things and assure me along the way. He didn’t at any point, make me feel I was asking silly questions or too many.

I highly recommend Mr Goutos for his exceptional incisions and suturing as well as his professional conduct, caring approach and after care. The whole experience was smooth and easy and I am very grateful for what he has done for me.

  We came to see Dr Goutos a few month ago to remove invasive spider nevus on my 9 year old sons nose . After a lovely consultation with Dr Goutos , he suggested to do several laser treatment sessions. After a few sessions we already noticed a massive improvement. On the final laser treatment session the spider nevus  was completely gone. Thank you to the Dr Goutos for tackling the problem so rapidly and with great results!

  We took our 4yr old daughter to Mr Goutos following an accident which resulted in a small burn scar on her cheek. Mr Goutos gave us various options and we went for laser treatment. After 4 appointments the scar has gone!
