Our arm lift procedure in London, or ‘brachioplasty’, is a body contouring operation performed to sculpt and improve the appearance of the under surface of the upper arm.

What is an arm lift (brachioplasty)?

As people age, or undergo significant weight loss, the tissues in the upper arm may become loose or saggy, which some report as unsightly and can make choosing clothing more difficult. During an arm lift procedure, excess skin and fat are removed from the upper arm through an incision and the remaining tissues are reshaped to restore a different contour to the arm. This is done on both arms to ensure a symmetrical and cosmetically pleasing result.

Arm lift surgery can be done either under a general anaesthetic, meaning that you will be asleep throughout the procedure, or under sedation, with aneasthetic blocks, during which, you will be sleepy and less aware of the procedure. In both cases, this operation can be done as a day case, meaning that most people will be able to go home on the same day. In the case that you need longer observation, you may need to stay in hospital overnight.

How does an arm lift work?

The first stage of getting arm lift surgery is to have an initial consultation. During this appointment you will be able to discuss your target areas and overall body contouring goals. This will allow you to explore the most appropriate procedure to achieve your desired cosmetic outcomes and evaluate whether or not additional treatments or surgeries may be of benefit. You will then undergo meticulous pre-operative planning and assessment to ensure that you are medically suitable for a safe general anaesthetic or sedation for the surgical procedure.

Prior to your operation, your surgeon will take time to mark out the incision sites to ensure that the tissue removal is equal on both arms and that the resultant scars will be symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing. Once safely sedated, or under anaesthetic, you will be carefully monitored throughout your surgery. The surgeon will then make an incision from armpit to elbow on the underside of the upper arm. This allows for the excess fat and skin to be removed. At this stage, your surgeon may also use liposuction techniques to provide further contouring and sculpt the under arm to the desired shape. Following the removal of excess tissue, the remaining skin and tissues are re-draped around the under arm to provide a smooth and taut finish to the arm lift. The incision is then closed using suitable sutures and a dressing is applied over the wound.

An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that offers numerous benefits to individuals seeking to improve the appearance of their arms. Firstly, it effectively removes excess skin and fat from the upper arms, resulting in a more toned and contoured look. This can greatly enhance one’s self-confidence and body image. Additionally, an arm lift can help alleviate discomfort caused by sagging skin, particularly in the underarm area. By tightening and smoothing the skin, this procedure can improve mobility and reduce irritation or chafing. Moreover, the results of an arm lift are long-lasting, making it a worthwhile investment for those desiring lasting improvements to their arm aesthetics.

All surgery involving skin incisions will result in scarring. There is also risk of infection, bleeding and blood clots. Steps are taken in both the pre- and post-operative planning and care to reduce these risks as much as possible. It is also important to follow any recovery advice to ensure good cosmetic results of your surgery.

Sometimes liposuction is used during an arm lift surgery to help achieve the desired final shape and contour of the upper arm. An arm lift can also be combined with a lateral body lift procedure to provide further body contouring results. This will prolong the overall surgery and may affect your recovery time following the operation.

The arm lift procedure in London is generally reported to be a relatively painless experience. With advancements in medical technology and anaesthesia techniques, patients often experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. Mr Goutos typically administers local or general anaesthesia to ensure that patients are comfortable throughout their surgery. Additionally, post-operative pain can be effectively managed with prescribed pain medications. The arm lift procedure at Goutos London is known for its high success rates and patient satisfaction.

After an arm lift procedure, most people will need 7-14 days off work. Advice regarding the exact amount of time off is tailored to each individual based on the extent of their surgery, as well as the type of work that they do. It is also important to refrain from any strenuous activities for 6-8 weeks after the operation, and to wear appropriate compression garments during this time to reduce post-operative swelling and provide adequate support to the healing wounds.

To maintain the results of an arm lift in London, it is important to follow a comprehensive post-operative care routine. Firstly, it is crucial to adhere to the surgeon’s instructions regarding bandages and dressings, ensuring proper hygiene and regular changing. Secondly, engaging in light exercises and stretches specifically designed for the arms can help maintain muscle tone and prevent sagging. Additionally, incorporating a balanced diet rich in lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables can aid in overall skin health and elasticity. Lastly, regular moisturisation with specialised creams or oils can keep the skin hydrated and supple, further enhancing the longevity of the arm lift results. By diligently following these steps, individuals can enjoy long-lasting benefits from their arm lift procedure in London.

You can expect a scar over the incision line from the armpit to the elbow on the underside of the arm. There are several techniques that an expert surgeon can use to improve the quality of the resultant scars, including careful planning and placement of the incision lines to respect the natural creases in the skin, closure of the surgical wound using special tension-relieving measures and adequate after care following the operation. For those who are prone to developing unfavourable scars, additional measures can be taken in the after care, including the use of silicone or steroids tapes and/or needling/laser techniques to give a more aesthetic appearance of the final scarring.
