We offer a buttock lift or ‘gluteoplasty’, at our London clinic, which is a body contouring operation that aims to improve the overall contour and shape in the buttock area.

As people age, or with rapid weight loss, skin may become more saggy and lose its elasticity. This can result in areas of skin that are loose and lose their natural shape and contour.

Some individuals find that this can have a significant impact on their body confidence and self-esteem. Buttock lift surgery aims to remove excess skin and fat tissue from around the buttock area, which allows the remaining tissues to be aligned into a more rounded contour and give a ‘lifted’ effect to the bottom. Buttock lift surgery is performed under a general anaesthetic, which means that you will be completely unconscious throughout the operation.

Mr Ioannis Goutos is a top plastic surgeon, with special interests in body contouring and managing scars. During an initial consultation, Mr Goutos will be able to discuss your current concerns and cosmetic goals in order to recommend a tailored treatment plan for you. He is a technically skilled and experienced surgeon, who is able to recommend and perform a number of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures, as well as provide expert aftercare.

Buttock Lift Treatment London

If you are interested in having a buttock lift procedure, the first step is to have an initial consultation and assessment. During this appointment you will be able to discuss the details of your aesthetic goals. After assessing your target areas, your clinician will be able to recommend the best procedure(s) and form an individual treatment plan tailored to you. Sometimes buttock lifts can be performed in conjunction with other body contouring procedures such as lateral body lift, thigh lift or tummy tucks. You will also undergo a thorough pre-operative assessment to ensure that it is safe for you to have a general anaesthetic. This usually involves a general physical examination, medication review and some basic medical investigations.

Prior to the operation, the surgeon will meticulously mark the incision lines on the skin to ensure that tissue is removed in a symmetrical fashion. The surgery itself is typically done through an incision at the top of the buttock area, over the lower back from hip to hip. If tissue is being removed from underneath the buttocks, then this is where the initial incision will be placed. Once the incision is made, excess skin and fat tissues can then be removed. The remaining skin and tissues are usually pulled upwards and redraped to create a more rounded shape to the bottom. At this stage, your surgeon may also use liposuction techniques to further sculpt the area. The skin is then closed using appropriate suturing techniques.

Following your buttock lift surgery, it is important to avoid putting any additional stress on the surgical wound. Most people will be able to return to work after 2 weeks (depending on the nature of their work) and perform more exertional activities after 6-8 weeks. During this recovery time, it is recommended to wear appropriate compression garments to reduce the risk of swelling and promote good healing of the surgical wound. If you are prone to unfavourable scarring, your surgeon may recommend additional adjuncts such as silicone plasters, steroid tapes or lasers during the post-operative phase to encourage good quality scar formation.

Buttock Lift London FAQs

We know having medical, surgical or cosmetic treatment can seem daunting and it is natural to have questions. We are here to ensure your comfort and safety at all times. If you are unable to find the answer to your questions below, then please do not hesitate to contact us so we can help.

The main risks of buttock lift surgery are similar to those of any surgical procedure, including bleeding, wound healing problems, infection and blood clots. On rare occasions, some individuals may have reactions to the medications used in the general anaesthetic. These risks are mitigated as much as possible through careful and thorough pre-operative planning and good post-operative care. Although buttock lift surgery usually gives excellent results in the first instance, occasionally an additional ‘touch up’ procedure is needed to give the best end result. All the risks associated with buttock lift surgery will be discussed with you in full prior to having this procedure.

It is usual to expect some discomfort and swelling following this operation. This can be managed well with painkillers and wearing supportive compression garments as guided by your surgeon. Most people can return to light duties and office-based work within 7-14 days, with an expected recovery period of 6-8 weeks before any strenuous or vigorous activity. Your recovery period will also include post-operative follow up.

All surgery will result in scarring and the final scar will appear where the surgical incision is made. In the case of a buttock lift, this is usually in the lower back/upper buttock area. If you are prone to developing unfavourable scarring, this should be discussed with your surgeon in advance of your operation as additional surgical techniques and post-operative care can be used to ensure optimal scar formation.

There are a number of body contouring procedures available depending on the target areas of your body which you are wishing to have treated. A buttock lift can be used in conjunction with liposuction or other surgical procedures such as body lift or tummy tuck. This should be discussed during your initial consultation and assessment.
